Finance Director

Overview

Our client, a fast growing, PE backed music rights start up, sought their first in house finance hire for a pivotal Finance Director role. With ambitious growth plans to double revenue and headcount within 12 months, the company required a candidate who could manage end to end finance, oversee relationships with private equity backers, and drive investor relations. The challenge lay in the niche market, with few UK based candidates combining music industry expertise and PE exposure.

Key Challenges & Role Evolution

Initially, the client aimed to hire a Head of Finance or Financial Controller (FC) alongside a part time CFO. However, after consulting with us, they recognised the need for a mid level Finance Director who could:

  • Handle strategic responsibilities like PE relationship management and investor relations.
  • Oversee operational finance, including accounting, income tracking, and revenue assurance.
  • Grow into a CFO role within 12–18 months, aligning with their budget and long term goals.

Outcome

We sourced six candidates, blending those from our network with proactively headhunted talent. Despite initial interest in higher level CFOs, the client ultimately selected a headhunted FD candidate who had the gravitas & capability to manage the C Suite relationships but would also roll their sleeves up and compete the more hands on accounting duties whilst growing into the position. They brought a rare combination of music industry expertise, corporate finance, and investment banking experience.

This efficient and collaborative process resulted in a seamless hire, meeting the client’s requirements and setting a solid foundation for their ambitious growth plans. Both the client and candidate were thrilled with the outcome.
